The origin pointGreen Lantern #49 · Darryl Banks & Romeo Tanghal
The original cover
Power at his fingertips.
Hal Jordan’s ring-covered hands frame a feverish grin. The tight portrait, splayed fingers and glowing palette became the defining visual of Emerald Twilight.
Green Lantern #49 is cover-dated February 1994. Darryl Banks penciled the cover and Romeo Tanghal inked it. Ron Marz wrote the story, with interior art by Fred Haynes. The original cover colorist remains unconfirmed.
New artwork forms a separate group. Trade dress, virgin, foil and sketch versions stay together when they use the same illustration. Straight facsimiles are reference reprints rather than new homages.

Research & upcoming · Reviewed October 11, 2026
From Emerald Twilight to Emerald Poohlight.
New discoveries include Pooh Lantern, the Michael Jordan convention edition and a qualified Looney Tunes reinterpretation. Research included publisher and retailer listings, GCD, DCU Guide, eBay, Reddit and publicly indexed social posts.
Upcoming: No additional future GL #49 homage was confirmed in this pass. The July 8, 2026 facsimile and foil edition are already released reproductions of the original. Otter Squad #3 and Harley Quinn #65 are also published.
Still under review: Salvation Run #7, Green Lantern #55’s Lobo variant and Harley Quinn #65 have similar framing but lack an explicit target statement. Green Lantern #46 is a looser reinterpretation identified by a contemporary reviewer. Seller-reported quantities remain labeled.
Interior references: GCD documents reprints of the Banks Joker homage in The Joker: Uncovered #1 and the Joker by James Tynion IV Compendium. Green Lantern #23’s cover is reproduced in Graphic Ink: The DC Comics Art of Ivan Reis. These are supporting references and do not inflate the distinct-artwork count.
