The original cover

A debut with a target.

The Punisher stands at the left, his gun trained on an upside-down Spider-Man inside oversized crosshairs. The yellow field and stark silhouettes make the confrontation instantly recognizable.

The issue introduces the Punisher and the costumed Jackal. Gil Kane penciled the cover; John Romita Sr. inked it.

New drawings are distinct artworks. Virgin, foil, sketch, reprint, and color treatments using the same drawing stay together as related editions. A few later covers reverse the confrontation without repeating the entire layout.

Research & scope · October 14, 2026

A researched collection, with room for discoveries.

Reviewed against publisher and distributor announcements, artist credits, retailer listings, convention exclusives, and collector checklists. Printed comic covers, back covers, and magazine homages are included. Standalone fan art, commissions on blank covers, trading cards, and merchandise are outside the artwork count. Edition totals are documented minimums.

Album comparison completed October 14: all nine uploaded batches, comprising 185 images, were reviewed. This pass adds 18 previously uncataloged cover artworks, including Planet Death, Specter Outlaw, Endem, Death Notice, Astral Vengeance and Amoral Stingray. Reprints and alternate finishes remain grouped with their underlying artwork. Unknown dates and artist credits are identified in each record; unresolved publication leads remain outside the count.

The original’s facsimiles and reprints share one entry. McKone’s Sentry and Norman Osborn drawings are separate; attributing these covers to interior artist Jerome Opeña is unsupported. Sandoval’s 2026 ASM #129 facsimile variant is alternate cover art, but its composition has not been verified as a homage.

Cover images: Every catalog artwork now has an image, including the forthcoming POSTAL campaign cover. The uploaded covers now supply sharper images for 23 existing entries and images for the new records. Some sources remain physical-book photographs; the N.U.T.T. Brigade scan is low resolution and has not been enlarged. Upstarts #2 is a historical campaign with fulfillment unconfirmed, rather than a newly upcoming release. Dandy’s existing scan remains low resolution. Stabbity Bunny now has a full cover scan replacing the earlier photograph.
