The origin pointGiant-Size X-Men #1 · Gil Kane & Dave Cockrum
The original cover
Out with the old.
In bursts the new.
Gil Kane and Dave Cockrum frame the new X-Men beneath the watching faces of the original team. Torn paper, charging figures and the banner “Second Genesis!” make the change impossible to miss.
Marvel’s 1975 issue introduced the new team assembled by Professor X. Its cover combines Kane’s pencils with Cockrum’s inks and original-team portraits, with colors credited to Glynis Wein.
This lineage includes direct recreations, comic parodies and variations on the breakthrough composition. Original-art reprints do not count as new homages. Alternate finishes of the same artwork are grouped.

Research & upcoming · Reviewed October 13, 2026
A team cover with a long afterlife.
The research combines the supplied spreadsheet and League of Comic Geeks list with publisher listings, retailer archives, artist credits, GCD, Comic Vine and publicly indexed convention, social-media and marketplace references.
Upcoming: No additional unreleased homage cover was confirmed in this review. An announced title or story tribute alone does not establish a cover homage.
Edition checks: Original-art facsimiles and Marvel Comics Digest #4 are reprints. Loki’s collected edition reuses the issue #8 artwork. A-Next #12 is held as an indirect reference pending stronger evidence of the Giant-Size X-Men connection.
