Artist Profile

A career in context

Nathan C. Gooden studied animation at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and worked in film production before co-founding Vault Comics. His publisher biography identifies him as Vault’s art director, connecting his work as an individual illustrator to the visual development of the company’s publishing line.

Gooden co-created Barbaric with writer Michael Moreci. Vault credits him with both interior art and cover art on Murderable Offenses, alongside colorist Addison Duke and letterer Jim Campbell. The series follows Owen, a cursed barbarian, and a talking axe, placing Gooden’s character drawing within a fantasy story built around action and dark comedy.

His other published projects include Brandon Sanderson’s Dark One, Zojaqan, Killbox and Post Malone’s Big Rig. These collaborations extend his sequential-art practice across fantasy, science fiction and supernatural adventure. His role at Vault also connects his drawing to the broader presentation of the publisher’s books.
