Artist Profile

A career in context

Matthew Waite has worked across comics and graphic design for more than two decades, developing a distinctive specialty in 8-bit cover imagery. His approach translates characters and established compositions into the grammar of early games.

His cover credits include Marvel, Image, and TidalWave projects, with work connected to Edge of Spider-Verse, Avengers A.I., G.I. Joe, Exquisite Corpses, and the Fame biography line.

CoverLineage noteWaite makes the mechanics of homage visible. By reducing an image to pixels, he demonstrates how little information an iconic composition needs before recognition clicks into place. Action Comics #1 connections now include Superman #1.
