Leinil Francis Yu

Artist of Secret Invasion, Superman: Birthright and Supercrooks, with extensive superhero interior and cover work for Marvel and DC.

Artist Profile

A career in context

Leinil Francis Yu has illustrated major superhero stories for both Marvel and DC. His Marvel bibliography includes Wolverine and New Avengers, while the publisher credits him as the artist of Secret Invasion with writer Brian Michael Bendis. The Skrull invasion story placed his work at the center of a large crossover rather than only on its promotional covers.

At DC, Yu illustrated Superman: Birthright with Gerry Alanguilan, working from Mark Waid’s script. The twelve-issue series retells Clark Kent’s beginnings and development into Superman. DC’s collected editions identify both artists, a useful reminder that finished comic artwork often reflects a collaboration rather than a single name.

Yu also illustrated Supercrooks with writer Mark Millar and worked on Inhumans vs. X-Men. Marvel’s interview about that event discusses his approach to handling a large conflict between established characters. His published range includes intimate origin storytelling, team confrontations and a supervillain heist, providing context for the action-focused covers represented in this archive.
