Artist Profile
A career in context
John Byrne was born in England and raised in Canada. After studying at the Alberta College of Art and Design, he worked for Skywald and Charlton, where he created Rog-2000, before moving to Marvel.
His runs on Uncanny X-Men and Fantastic Four became central parts of his career. In 1986, Byrne moved to DC to rework Superman’s beginnings in The Man of Steel. His work combines writing and drawing across many of the major characters at both publishers.
CoverLineage noteByrne is represented here as both a source artist and a participant in homage. Uncanny X-Men #141, penciled by Byrne and inked by Terry Austin, anchors its own lineage; Spider-Man: Chapter One #1 connects him to Amazing Fantasy #15. Action Comics #1 connections now include Fantastic Four #291.
