Artist Profile
A career in context
Jamie Biggs is a comic-book cover artist with published work for Dynamite Entertainment, including Army of Darkness, Barbarella, Red Sonja, Nyx, Evil Ernie and Vampirella. His connection to Todd McFarlane is documented in his own account of discovering the five-part Spider-Man story Torment as a teenager. In a statement supplied for Dynamite’s 2021 homage-cover announcement, he described finding the comics in a bagged collection while shopping for action figures and being struck by their poses and densely rendered artwork.
Biggs also identified meeting McFarlane at MegaCon in Orlando in 1996 as an especially important experience. Dynamite subsequently commissioned him for a coordinated set of variants based on The Amazing Spider-Man #300. The publisher’s November 2021 announcement named Evil Ernie #1, Nyx #2 and Red Sonja #4 among the participating issues, placing his illustrations within a publishing program spanning several characters rather than a single commission.
His published variants also include Barbarella #6 and Vengeance of Vampirella #25, both offered with McFarlane homage artwork and accompanying black-and-white treatments. Vampirella/Dracula: Unholy #1 carries another Biggs homage variant. Together these assignments document a cover practice extending across fantasy, horror and licensed adventure titles.
CoverLineage noteBiggs’s coordinated Dynamite variants carry the ASM300 composition across Army of Darkness, Barbarella, Evil Ernie, Nyx, Red Sonja, Sheena, Vengeance of Vampirella and Pantha. His publisher statement about discovering McFarlane’s Torment provides a documented personal connection to the artist whose work these covers revisit.
