Artist Profile

A career in context

Davis Rider is an artist and graphic designer whose practice includes commercial design and pop-culture illustration. In a 2021 interview with apparel company Bad Monday, he described working as a freelance designer and artist in Los Angeles, while making tattoo flash in his spare time. His professional portfolio separates merchandise design, packaging, web design and posters, reflecting a working practice that extends beyond comic-book covers and into visual identity and printed products.

Rider said that living with a tattooer helped him learn how to create flash designs, and that he enjoyed combining familiar entertainment characters with traditional tattoo imagery. He traced his interest in comics to Spider-Man books his mother bought him as a child, while also drawing inspiration from films and television he grew up with. For his Bad Monday collaboration, he produced five shirt designs and described emphasizing bold forms and bright colors. He also discussed the appeal of drawing reapers and other traditional motifs.

His comics work includes variant-cover illustration, and he has also moved into writing. Massive Publishing credits Rider and Will Jack as the writers of Sweet Death, with interior art by Simone Ragazzoni. The series follows Eve Killjoy, an unwilling assassin trapped in an infernal pact that requires her to claim one hundred souls. The publisher released an SDCC exclusive edition of the first issue in July 2026. Together, these projects document a career that combines illustration, graphic design and the creation of original comic stories.
