Artist Profile

A career in context

Dan Parent has regularly illustrated Archie Comics stories since 1987. Archie’s publisher history associates his work with the full Riverdale cast, including the Love Showdown crossover that brought Cheryl Blossom into prominence. His credits encompass both writing and drawing rather than cover illustration alone.

Parent wrote and illustrated Kevin Keller’s debut in Veronica #202 in 2010, introducing Archie Comics’ first openly gay character. Kevin went on to receive his own comics and appear throughout the Archie publishing line. Archie’s 2025 facsimile announcement explicitly credits Parent’s dual role on the original story, an important distinction from artists supplying later variant covers.

Parent also led the Kevin Keller Celebration! crowdfunding project with Archie’s support. The resulting omnibus collects the character’s classic-style stories and includes Parent among the writers and artists, with its cover credited to him. His wider projects include Die Kitty Die, while his continuing Archie work includes Archie: The Decision with writer Tom King. Together these projects show a career spanning established characters, new-character development and independent publishing.
