Artist Profile

A career in context

Ben Dunn is a comic-book illustrator, writer and publisher who founded Antarctic Press to publish manga-influenced comics. His professional biography at G-Man Comics identifies Ninja High School and Warrior Nun Areala as his best-known creations. Antarctic Press’s own description confirms his role as founder and places those titles alongside its broader creator-owned publishing program. Warrior Nun Areala later became the source material for the Netflix television series Warrior Nun.

Ninja High School is a continuing strand of Dunn’s bibliography rather than an isolated early creation. Antarctic Press credits him with both story and art on issue #177, while its listing for issue #201 identifies him specifically as cover artist alongside writer Alfred Perez and interior artist George Herrera. The publisher describes the series as Ameri-Manga, reflecting its combination of an American comics publishing context with manga-derived storytelling. Dunn’s professional biography also lists Tomorrow Girl and editorial responsibilities on Exciting Comics, Planet Comics and Jungle Comics.

His career extends beyond Antarctic Press to assignments for publishers including Marvel, DC, Malibu, Eternity and First Comics. He has worked in animation as well as print: G-Man’s biography credits storyboarding on The Real Ghostbusters and Exo-Squad, plus animation work on the film A Scanner Darkly. The same publisher commissioned an alternate cover from him for Sgt. Flag Meets Tomorrow Girl. These different roles connect drawing, story development, editorial work and independent publishing within a professional career that encompasses both original characters and outside commissions.

CoverLineage noteDunn’s Dark Devil #1 cover joins the ASM300 catalog. Ninja High School #176 adds an X-Men #141 Kickstarter cover, tying his own long-running series to another widely revisited superhero composition.
