Artist catalog & profile

Arthur Suydam

A painter and comics artist whose macabre transformations made the classic-cover zombie homage a collecting category of its own.

Artist Profile

A career in context

Arthur Suydam entered professional comics in the 1970s, developing creator-owned fantasy and underground work for publications including Heavy Metal before becoming widely known to a new generation through his painted Marvel Zombies covers.

His bibliography ranges from Cholly and Flytrap and Mudwogs to Deadpool, Black Panther, Army of Darkness, and licensed horror imagery. Recent cover work continues to circulate through horror and collector-focused editions.

CoverLineage noteSuydam’s most recognizable covers operate through collision: a pristine piece of comics history meets rot, appetite, and black comedy. The source remains visible, but its meaning has been deliberately infected.
